IPL 2022: First Choice Seven Indian Players Of Gujarat Titans (GT) For The Tournament

Gujarat Titans is one of the two new teams in IPL 2022 owned by CVC Capitals. The franchise picked Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan each for 15 crores along with Shubman Gill (8 Crores) as the three draft picks ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. They also announced Hardik Pandya as the skipper of the side.

Gujarat Titans went onto add 20 players in the mega auction to complete a 23-member squad. Mohammed Shami, Jason Roy, and Lockie Ferguson were some of the top picks for the franchise. The Kiwi pacer was their most expensive player at 10 crores.

Gujarat Titans would like to field their strongest playing XI and thus the Indian players they pick need to have that edge over the others. Shubman Gill

Gill after playing four successive seasons with KKR was picked up by the new franchise. He will open the batting for them along with someone like a Wriddhiman Saha or Matthew Wade at the other end. Gill scored 1417 in 58 matches for KKR. He was also looked at as a potential leader for the franchise in the future. Thus KKR parting ways with Shubman Gill came as a surprise to many.

Wriddhiman Saha

Saha was one of the late picks for the franchise. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman is aging 37 and is in the news lately. He is not a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The franchise can play Saha as a keeper and use Matthew Wade as a finisher in the playing XI.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was picked for 15 crores and named the skipper of the new franchise. The Indian all-rounder has not played any cricket since the T20 World Cup for India. He was asked to regain full fitness by the Indian selectors and thus was sent to the NCA as well. While no one is doubting his batting abilities, it will be interesting to see if he can bowl in IPL 2022.

Rahul Tewatia

Tewatia has blown cold in the IPL since his break-out season with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020. Despite not playing much domestic cricket recently, the franchise invested 9 crores to avail his services. Tewatia is one among the many all-around options Gujarat Titans have to their luxury. Given his big-hitting ability lower down the order, he should be one of the seven Indian players in the line-up.

Vijay Shankar

Shankar can be the seam-bowling all-rounder in the line-up. With doubts still remaining over Hardik Pandya’s fitness and bowling, the franchise will need Shankar’s bowling impetus in the games besides his batting. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has been far from the periphery of the national team set up in recent times. He last played for India in 2019 and was a part of India’s 2019 World Cup squad as well.

Varun Aaron

Aaron made a comeback of sorts in the IPL. He played his last IPL match in 2-020 for Rajasthan Royals. He will now be a part of the bowling attack with Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan for company. He would like to get a consistent run with the franchise. So far in 50 IPL matches, Aaron has picked up 42 wickets.

Mohammed Shami

Shami will be the leader of the bowling attack. He was picked up by the franchise for 6.25 crores. Shami has been spearheading the Indian bowling attack in red-ball cricket for a long time now. Along with Jasprit Bumrah, he has been a regular in the Indian Test XI. In the IPL he performed his best for Punjab Kings picking up 58 wickets in 42 games for the franchise.
