Parthiv Patel, a former Mumbai Indians player, has emphasized Ishan Kishan’s “mental block,” stating the opener must maintain his aggressive stance in the T20 tournament.

With a strike rate of 108.15, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has amassed 199 runs in eight games.

The Mumbai Indians were defeated for the eighth time in the IPL 2022 campaign on Sunday, as KL Rahul‘s unbroken 103 off 62 balls crushed the five-time winners at Wankhede Stadium. In front of a raucous audience, Mumbai only ended up scoring 132, with 5 players removed for single-digit scores.

Rohit Sharma started off to a fantastic start but ended on 39, while Kieron Pollard was beyond his aggressive form and only managed 19 runs.

Ishan Kishan was bought back for $15.25 crore at an auctioned previously this year, but the youngster has been unable to justify his high price tag. Ishan began with a string of fifties, but his form has gone downhill since then.

Ishan Kishan’s approach isn’t helping him: Parthiv

Parthiv Patel, a former Mumbai Indians player, has emphasized Ishan’s “mental block,” stating the opener must maintain his aggressive stance in the T20 format.

“During his innings, he didn’t even try to hit any shots.” I believe the only cause is a mental obstacle. A batter cannot play in the T20 format if the only thing on his mind is survival. In this form, you must be aggressive with your shots.

“Ishan’s strategy isn’t allowing him to break the 100 strike rate barrier. To get going, he needs to play some shots,” Parthiv told Cricbuzz.

“He’s been hitting the very same manner and scoring runs for several years, so there’s no technical flaw.” He went on to say, “It’s all about the batting approach.”

The winless Mumbai Indians’ IPL career is all but finished this season after eight defeats. They are presently the only franchise in tournament history to lose eight consecutive games.
