Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg, while talking about Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy stint at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, said that he feels sorry for Jadeja because during his captaincy stint he did not have some of the key players in the squad.

Jadeja was handed over the CSK captaincy by MS Dhoni just a few days before the Indian Premier League 2022 and after the poor performance of the team under him, he decided to hand back the captaincy to MS Dhoni.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Brad Hogg said that there was extra pressure on Ravindra Jadeja as he was leading a depleted side. He asserted:

“I feel sorry for Jadeja. There have been personnel that have been missing. Especially, Chahar with the ball. So, Jadeja effectively did not have the full quota of players in the squad. So that’s put extra pressure on him. But, at the end of the day, CSK are on the backfoot. They have made the move.”

Chennai Super Kings were not looking for a skipper at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru and Hogg has opined that CSK should have gone hard for an Indian player who was capable to take over the captaincy from Dhoni. He stated:

“CSK and the management should have been thinking about this when they went to the auction this year when there was a small hint that Dhoni will not continue. They should have been going hard after an Indian player to take over from Dhoni.”

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore will lock horns with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Wednesday, May 4.
