IPL 2022: It's A Matter Of Time They Will Be At Their Best – BCCI President Sourav Ganguly On Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has said that he is not concerned about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s form and added that they will be back at their best very soon.

India captain Rohit Sharma and former India captain Virat Kohli struggled for runs in the IPL 2022. Rohit scored just 268 runs in 14 games for MI at an average of 19.14 and a strike-rake of 120.17. Also, Kohli before RCB’s last league stage match against Gujarat Titans had scored just 236 runs in 13 games, including three golden ducks.

Meanwhile, Ganguly said that Rohit and Kohli play so much of cricket that at times they go out of form. However, he was confident of the duo getting back to their best very soon.

“Everybody is human. There will be mistakes but Rohit’s record as captain is outstanding. Five IPL titles, Asia Cup winner, he has won whatever he has captained, so his record as captain is outstanding. Mistakes will happen because they are all human,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of a promotional event.

“They are very good players. I’m sure they will be back among runs. They play so much of cricket that at times they go out of form. Kohli played very well in the last game, especially when it was required for RCB.

“That’s why he (Kohli) was so happy that RCB qualified. They are all great players, it’s a matter of time they will be at their best,” Ganguly added.

Ganguly said that there should be no comparisons between Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni as Dhoni has so much experience in his bag and Pant is still learning.

“Don’t compare Pant with MS Dhoni. Dhoni has so much experience, has captained in 500-plus games in IPL, Tests and ODIs. So it’s not fair for Rishabh to be compared with Dhoni,” he said.

While talking about pace bowling sensation Umran Malik, Ganguly said that the SRH express pacer will be around for a long time if he maintains his fitness.

“His future is in his hands. If he stays fit and bowls at this pace, I’m sure he will be around for a long time,” he asserted.

The BCCI president added that several players like Tilak Varma, Rahul Tripathi, Rahul Tewatia, Mohsin Khan, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan have performed brilliantly in the IPL.

“Many have played well in this IPL. Tilak (Varma) has done well for MI. Rahul (Tripathi) for Sunrisers, Tewatia for GT.

“We have seen many emerging fast bowlers like Malik, Mohsin Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan… It’s a place where talent gets exposure.”
