All the games of the league stage are set to be played in Maharashtra across 4 different venues including Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

20 matches each will be played at the Wankhede Stadium and the Dy Patil Stadium while 15 games each will be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

“With the number of Covid-19 cases having gone down drastically, the state government is keen to increase the crowd capacity in IPL-15 to 50%,” TOI Source stated.

Meanwhile, former ICC, BCCI, and MCA president Sharad Pawar has already had an optimistic discussion regarding increasing the crowd capacity in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Both aforementioned mentioned names want to increase the spectators’ capacity in the stadiums during the 15th edition of the tournament. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still in “two minds” on the matter.

The TOI source said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India wants to play safe for now because they don’t want this tournament to get postponed and shifted outside India as it had happened last year with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

“Considering that last year’s IPL had to be shifted out of the country due to the second wave, it wants to play safe for now. The BCCI wants a review of the crowd capacity around April 15, when the first phase of the league will be over,” the source said.
