IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Certainly Going To Miss Him: Sanjay Bangar On AB de Villiers Being Unavailable For RCB

This is the first time in over a decade that AB De Villiers will not be available for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He announced his retirement from the league after the 2021 season. He was roped in by the franchise in 2011 and played with the franchise till 2021. In the meantime, he helped the sid win many games with his notable performances.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar looked back at AB De Villiers’ career with RCB. He scored over 4000 runs for the franchise in over 150 games. The franchise head into the auction with a remaining purse of 57 crores with 22 spots to fill up. They retained Virat Kohli (15 Cr), Glenn Maxwell (11 Cr) and Mohammad Siraj (7 Cr).

“I am very sure that there is not a single player on planet earth who can fill in the job that AB did for RCB over such a long period of time. He was magical even in the last couple of seasons.

“So we are certainly going to miss him but we will have to cope with the challenge and I see a lot of opportunities there where we can do something with our team combinations. So those are the questions that we will have to answer,” Bangar said in a video shared by RCB on Twitter.

Overall, De Villiers played 184 matches and scored a total of 5162 runs at an average of 39.7. He scored three hundreds and 40 fifties, maintaining a strike rate of 151.7.

As far as the IPL 2022 mega auction is concerned, 600 players will go under the hammer with 370 Indian players and 220 overseas players. The BCCI added 10 players from the U-19 World Cup to an eve before the mega auction.
