IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians Can Only Win If Senior Players Score Runs: Aakash Chopra
Mumbai Indians have lost 7 straight games in IPL 2022 so far. This is a record in the tournament as no other team had lost 7 straight games in the league before. Nothing has worked for the franchise.
Former India opener, Aakash Chopra believes that MI can only win games if the likes of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan score runs.
Mumbai Indians Will Be Playing Their First Game At Wankhede Stadium
Mumbai Indians will be playing their first game at Wankhede stadium. If not for Covid 19 this would have been their home ground. But it’s going to be their first game at the venue in three years. They would hope that a change in venue brings a chance in fortunes for the team.
Till now Rohit Sharma has struggled to convert his starts while Ishan Kishan after starting the league well has suddenly gotten into a slump. Kieron Pollard too has been completely out of touch.
Aakash Chopra in his recently released YouTube video said, “MI won’t be able to win unless the likes of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan score big runs. As openers, you have 20 overs with you and these are good batting conditions.
“Jos Buttler has slammed 3 hundred so far in IPL 2022 and he has done well at this venue too. And it’s not just him, everyone else has performed well with the bat so you are bound to have expectations from Rohit and Ishan.”
Dewald Brevis bats at number 3 and he did well against LSG in their previous clash. Suryakumar Yadav has been playing well, but what can he do alone? Kieron Pollard isn’t scoring at all.
“Their balance is completely off. They have 6 batters out of which nobody bowls, except Pollard and Tilak Verma. Hritik Shokeen did bat well in the last match but I found his bowling to be just okay,” he added.
It’s quite certain that Mumbai will not make it to the playoffs this season even if they win their remaining league games. But what would the management hope for is that their players can play freely now that the pressure of qualification is no more there.
