Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) remembered how he struggled with limited opportunities and fears about the injury.

The left-handed pitcher admitted that the previous five years of his career have been difficult, but he has maintained his confidence throughout.

Rinku Singh was acquired by the Knight Riders in the blockbuster auction in 2018, however, the Young Turk failed to live up to its potential. Despite spending four seasons with the KKR, he won’t give many opportunities to play. He was also ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 for the first half due to a knee injury.

“Those five years were quite difficult for me. I really can not execute well after the first year, when I was selected for KKR and allowed to play. KKR still had faith in me and kept me for the next couple of seasons,” Singh said in a video posted on the team’s official Facebook page.

Singh had an outstanding performance in the 2022 IPL, scoring 174 runs in seven matches at an average of 34.80 and a strike rate of 148.71.

“I worked hard to develop my body language.” My teammates never thought I was sick. Last year was a difficult year for me because I injured my knee while completing a double during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. I was thinking about the IPL when I fell.

“I wasn’t comfortable staying away from cricket for so long,” they said, “since I required an operation and would need 6-7 months to recover.” My father went 2-3 days without eating. I told him it was simply an injury and that it was all part of the game. “I’m the lone breadwinner in my family, so such events are sure to be concerning,” he explained

Rinku delivered a 15-ball 40 against the Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, but despite his heroic effort, KKR lost by 2 runs (LSG).
