IPL 2022: On Paper, Players Are Promising, But The Pedigree Is Not There With Dhawan, Iyer And Ashwin Gone – Aakash Chopra On Delhi Capitals (DC)

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra while talking about the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 said that the new recruits of the team are promising but they lack pedigree with the departure of Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Delhi Capitals retained Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction and they were forced to release the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada.

During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Chopra said that the Delhi Capitals franchise can not replace one & only Shreyas Iyer with Sarfaraz.

“They have taken Kuldeep Yadav but, on the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin has been released. Earlier, they had Amit Mishra, now they have to make do with Pravin Dubey and Lalit Yadav. In the batting, they released Shikhar Dhawan and picked Yash Dhull, Mandeep Singh and Srikar Bharat,” said Chopra in a discussion on ESPNCricinfo.

“There is only one Shreyas Iyer, which is why he was sold for ₹12.25 crore. Sarfaraz cannot be his replacement. On paper, the players are promising, but the pedigree is not there with Dhawan, Iyer and Ashwin gone,” he further added.

The quality of earlier is not there – Wasim Jaffer on Delhi Capitals

Former Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer opined that DC doesn’t have the same quality as they used to have earlier.

“The quality of earlier is not there. But with two teams being added, more youngsters will get a chance to play. It will be beneficial for them. Sarfaraz Khan is in great form. He and a few other players will relish that opportunity,” said Jaffer.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are placed in Group A of the Indian Premier League 2022 along with Mumbai Indians (5 titles, 6 finals), Kolkata Knight Riders (2 titles, 3 finals), Rajasthan Royals (1 title, 1 final), and Lucknow Super Giants ( Debut Season).

DC will begin their Indian Premier League 2022 campaign with the battle against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium (CCI) in Mumbai.
