One of the crucial responsibilities for any team is to find a powerful captain. Now, since all the teams have finalized their squads, they are working with their skippers to plan the strategy for the tournament. There are few franchises who have nominated their skippers while there are a few yet to pick their captain. Here we talk about the predicted captains of all 10 teams for IPL 2022.

Chennai Super Kings- MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings will go with MS Dhoni as their skipper for IPL 2022. The former Indian skipper is in his forties now but he still owns the grip in captaincy that he used to have earlier. For instance, MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to the title in IPL 2021 last year, winning the title for the 4th time under his captaincy.

The four-time champions retained the wicketkeeper-batsman in their squad for Rs. 12 crores ahead of the auction. Dhoni has led the side since the debut edition in 2008 and there are no doubts that he will be the CSK skipper until he retires from Indian Premier League. Hence for CSK, MS Dhoni is almost certain to be the team’s skipper once again in IPL 2022.

Rishabh Pant is highly likely to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 like the last season. Pant was retained by Delhi for Rs. 16 crores ahead of the auction. The wicketkeeper-batsman led the side in the last season and took the team to the top of the points table post the league stage. However, DC lost two back-to-back games in the playoffs and could not reach the final.

As a captain and skipper, Pant did a commendable job for the team. The left-handed batsman slammed 419 runs in 16 games in IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer also parted ways with Delhi Capitals because he wanted to lead a team but the franchise wanted to go ahead with Pant as skipper. Rishabh Pant, being a regular player in the national setup, is a valuable asset for the IPL 2022 runners-up DC.

Kolkata Knight Riders parted ways with their skipper Eoin Morgan ahead of IPL 2022 auction, and the England white-ball captain also went unsold during the auction. KKR bought Shreyas Iyer during the auction for Rs. 12.25 crores. Shreyas Iyer has also been nominated as skipper by the two-time IPL champions.

Iyer has a good experience of leading Delhi Capitals in the past. He led the side since the mid-2018 season. In 2020 season, DC also reached the finals under captain Shreyas Iyer, Hence, Iyer is a strong leader for any IPL team and expected to grab success for KKR in IPL 2022.

For Mumbai Indians, there is no better skipper than Rohit Sharma. The right-handed batsman has won most titles for Mumbai Indians under his leadership. Sharma has led MI since 2013 and has won 5 IPL titles so far.

Ahead of IPL auction 2022, the 2020 champions retained Rohit Sharma for Rs. 16 crores. Sharma will continue to lead the team in IPL 2022 as well. Last time, the team failed to make it into the playoffs. However, they will seek to make a strong comeback this year. With Sharma currently leading the Indian team as well, there are no doubts that MI will keep him skipper in 2022 season as well.

Punjab Kings had to part ways with their former skipper KL Rahul, who did not wish to continue his association with the team. Punjab Kings has bought many top players during IPL auction 2022. However, Mayank Agarwal is highly likely to lead the side in IPL 2022.

PBKS retained Mayank Agarwal in the squad for Rs. 12 crores. Although Shikhar Dhawan is also a good option for a skipper, Agarwal has been part of the team for the last few seasons. Moreover, he also gave a fabulous batting performance in the last season, smashing 441 runs in 12 games at an average of 40+ and 4 fifties.

Rajasthan Royals- Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals bought many top players during IPL auction 2022 but it looks like the team will retain Sanju Samson as the skipper in IPL 2022. Samson led the team in the last season. The wicketkeeper-batsman also executed a spectacular performance hitting 484 runs in 14 games at an average of 40+.

The team was short of a few key players last year like Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, due to which their performance got affected. However, the IPL 2008 winners have built a strong squad for IPL 2022 and they will leave no stones unturned to come up with a better show this time. Samson might continue to lead the team in the 2022 season as well.

Virat Kohli left Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captainship after the end of last season. Kohli, who was the skipper of India in all three formats ahead of IPL 2021, is now skipper of none. He has left the captaincy of the Indian team to focus on his batting.

Kohli is highly unlikely to return to the skipper’s role in RCB in IPL 2022 after stepping down from the post. Hence, Faf du Plessis is the next strong contender to lead the side. RCB bought the right-handed batsman for Rs. 7 crores during IPL auction 2022. The 37-year-old has a lot of experience in captaincy. He has led South Africa in the past and also lead teams of some franchise cricket tournaments.

Sunrisers Hyderabad- Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson is highly likely to be the skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022. The franchise retained the New Zealander for Rs. 14 crores ahead of the auction. Williamson led the side in IPL 2021 as he was appointed captain midway during the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad did not buy any player during IPL auction 2022 who owns a lot of captaincy experience. Kane Williamson, being the skipper of New Zealand across three formats, will be the best choice of captain for IPL 2016 champions SRH.

Lucknow Super Giants- KL Rahul

For Lucknow Super Giants, there are no doubts in the area of captaincy. KL Rahul is going to lead the side in IPL 2022. The franchise bought the player as a draft pick ahead of the auction and also named him the skipper of the side for this year’s tournament. KL Rahul is offered a price of Rs. 17 crores for IPL 2022, the most than any other player in the tournament.

The right-handed batsman has a good experience of leading Punjab Kings team in the past. Although Punjab Kings came up with a poor show under Rahul’s captaincy in the last two seasons, his batting show was up to the mark. The 29-year-old finished as the top run-getter in IPL 2020 and 3rd highest in IPL 2021.

Gujarat Titans are also quite clear with their captaincy role for IPL 2022. Hardik Pandya has been named as the skipper of the team. Pandya was chosen as a draft player by Gujarat ahead of IPL auction 2022 at a whopping price of Rs. 15 crores.

Although Hardik Pandya does not have experience of leading any IPL team, he has good experience in the tournament. He was a core part of Mumbai Indians from IPL 2013 to 2021 and played many match-winning knocks for the team. Now, he will prepare to come up with a similar quality of cricket for his team Gujarat Titans.
