IPL 2022: Predicted Opening Pair Of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad added 20 players in the IPL 2022 mega auction to go with three players they had retained. SRH retained Kane Williamson for 14 crores, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik for 4 crores each. Williamson will continue to lead the side. Some of the key players that the team picked during the auction were Washington Sundar, Nicholas Pooran, T Natarajan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Nicholas Pooran was the team’s top pick at Rs. 10.75 crores.

The team is well balanced with plenty of all-round options. One area on which they seem lack depth is openers. Since David Warner and Jonny Bairstow are both not a part SRH anymore the think tank needs to brainstorm a bit on their opening combination.

Meanwhile, SRH spin bowling coach spoke Muttiah Muralitharan about Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma opening the batting. Williamson has batted in the middle-order majorly in his IPL career. The young southpaw in the little opportunities that he got for SRH proved to be a clean-hitter of the ball down the order.

Kane Williamson

It is a no-brainer that Williamson should open the batting for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022. He is the best batsman in the team and so should get the majority of the balls to bat. He can anchor the innings for SRH so that the likes of Abdul Samad, Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd can give the finishing kick to the innings while batting first or chasing.

Abhishek Sharma / Aiden Markram

The young prodigy has played 22 games for SRH scoring 241 with the best score of 46. The franchise can certainly invest in the youngster if they want to give him a longer run with the team. Sharma opening with Williamson will also help them maintain the left-right combination which often needs bowlers to adjust their line and lengths.

Aiden Markram is much more experienced. He has proved himself as an opener at the international level. However, he is yet to prove his mettle in the IPL. He was picked up by Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 and p[layed just six games for them scoring 146 runs with a best of 42. Markram-Williamson opening the batting will give the batting lineup more solidity up at the top.
