Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has been confirmed as the vice-captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise ahead of their opening game against fellow newcomers, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday.

Rashid was picked up by GT for INR 15 crores ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He will serve as deputy to the all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who was also bought for the same amount ahead of the auction.

Earlier, Rashid had praised his skipper, stating that they have already built a friendship and a strong bond ahead of the season. The two will now work in tandem for the Titans franchise.

He is a very nice person. We haven’t played together before but with the friendship and bond we share, it still feels like we have been playing together for years now. He is a great guy and always brings in a positive vibe whenever we talk about my game and his mindset,” Rashid said.

He is the captain, it will be a great opportunity for me to learn as much as possible. I will also share my experiences of playing in different leagues. “He is a new captain and this is a new team so definitely there will be so many things going on around his mind,” he further added.
