Delhi Capitals have been privileged to have a strong Indian contingent in the recent IPL seasons but still haven’t managed to win their maiden IPL title yet. They came very close in the 2020 edition but still have been lacking the final press and they will now have to rebuild the excellent set of players they had.

Delhi has opted for Rishabh Pant as the captain of the franchise in the upcoming seasons after his impressive stint in 2021 while their second and third retentions will be Prithvi Shaw and all-rounder Axar Patel. They have also taken the right option in picking Nortje ahead of Rabada who has looked slightly out of socks. Here are 3 big players who won’t be retained by Delhi Capitals.

Shreyas Iyer has been one of the architects in rebuilding the Delhi Capitals and taking the side forward in the last three to four years. The right-hander took over the captaincy in 2018 replacing Gautam Gambhir and he has led the side to the playoffs in 2019 and the finals in the 2020 season.

Iyer faced a shoulder injury prior to the 2021 IPL season in India and he was ruled out of the entire season for at least three months. Rishabh Pant captained the franchise in absence of Iyer and he did taste success which has left Delhi with no choice in continuing with the wicketkeeper as captain. Iyer has opted to move out of the franchise as per reports to be in the lead roles again.
