Rajasthan Royals will have to make sure that they pick a lot of experienced Indian hands as they have been suffering a lot in the recent IPL years due to the lack of a strong Indian contingent. Sanju Samson had a good season in IPL 2021 and he is set to continue his captaincy for the upcoming seasons as well.

The next Indian retention could be one of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Chetan Sakariya while the other two obvious retentions are expected to be Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. They do not have many Indian stars to have any dilemma in their retention and here are 3 big players who won’t be retained by Rajasthan Royals.

IPL 2022 Retention: 3 Big Players Who Won’t Be Retained By Rajasthan Royals

Ben Stokes:

Ben Stokes is unlikely to feature in the retention list of Rajasthan Royals as they will be able to retain just two overseas players. The all-rounder was picked up for a big price in the 2018 auction by the franchise and his performances apart from rare instances of big knocks, have been quite unpleasing.

Stokes despite his unimpressive performances throughout the last three editions have been a big player in the side and the franchise has been building up the core with foreign players. However, with Archer and Buttler being two of the preferred overseas picks, Stokes might not be retained.

Chris Morris:

Chris Morris turned out to be the most expensive player in IPL history in the previous auction and he did justice to his price in just the first phase of IPL 2021. The all-rounder struggled to find his best form in the recent UAE phase of the tournament and was dropped from the playing XI as well.

Morris is still one of the big names in IPL and he is expected to bag big money in the auction if he does go into it again. The South African all-rounder can tonk it down the order and he is very useful in hitting the yorkers at the back end of the innings.

Liam Livingstone:

Liam Livingstone has been one of the in-form all-rounders going around at the moment and he had a big impact for England in the limited-overs format in recent times. Livingstone has played the role of a finisher down the order exceedingly well and he definitely would be in the race for Rajasthan Royal’s retention.

However, with the option of retaining just two overseas players, Livingstone will always be a tough choice ahead of Buttler, Archer, or Stokes. Livingstone did not have the best IPL in the recent UAE phase and is unlike to be retained ahead of the mega auction.
