IPL 2022 will observe the addition of 2 new franchises which will be based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. A mega auction will take place ahead of the next year’s tournament. Hence, the old 8 teams were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. All 8 teams have announced their IPL 2022 retentions.

The 8 teams have retained a total of 27 players in their squads. Out of these 27 players, there are 19 domestic players and 8 overseas players. Among 19 domestic players, there are also 4 uncapped players. While many players deserved the amount they received during retentions, there were also a few players who got a very expensive amount. 5. Axar Patel- Rs. 9 Crore

Delhi Capitals retained Axar Patel for Rs. 9 crores. The left-arm pacer was earlier bought by the franchise in IPL 2019 auctions for Rs. 5 crores. Hence this time, the left-arm pacer is paid Rs. 4 crores more than his last year’s salary. In IPL 2021, the 27-years-old spinner picked 15 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 20.40 and an economy of 6.65.

4. Venkatesh Iyer- Rs. 8 Crore

Venkatesh Iyer is another player on this list. The left-handed batsman was picked for just Rs. 20 lakh during IPL 2021 auction by Kolkata Knight Riders. However, his price went to Rs. 8 crores for the upcoming season, as he was retained for this whopping amount by KKR for the 2022 season.

Hence, this is a mighty financial jump that Iyer has seen in his IPL career. In IPL 2021, he gave an impressive batting performance, smashing 370 runs in 10 innings at an average of 41.11 and 4 half-centuries.

3. Suryakumar Yadav- Rs. 8 Crore

Suryakumar Yadav was retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2022 for Rs. 8 crores. Back in IPL 2018 mega auction, the right-handed batsman was picked by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 3.20 crore. Hence, his salary package has doubled for the next season.

He is also being paid more than the team’s vice-captain Kieron Pollard, who will be paid Rs. 6 crores. In IPL 2021, Yadav smacked 317 runs in 14 matches at an average of 22.64.

2. Mayank Agarwal- Rs. 12 Crore

Mayank Agarwal is another player on this list. Punjab Kings retained Mayank Agarwal in the squad for a whopping amount of Rs. 12 crores. In IPL 2018, the right-handed batsman for picked for Rs. 1 crore by Punjab Kings. Hence, his salary has increased more than 10 times in IPL 2022 season. In IPL 2021, he scored 441 runs in 12 matches at an average of 40.09 with 4 half-centuries.

1. Sanju Samson- Rs. 14 Crore

Sanju Samson was retained by Punjab Kings for IPL 2022 for a massive amount of Rs. 14 crores. The right-handed batsman was earlier picked by Rajasthan in IPL 2018 auction for Rs. 8 crores. Hence, his new salary is a lot more than his previous package.

Sanju Samson was promoted as skipper in IPL 2021 season. In 14 games, the wicket-keeper batsman slammed 484 runs at an average of 40.33 with 1 century and 2 half-centuries.
