IPL 2022: Suryakumar Yadav Reveals How Rohit Sharma Motivated Him To Play For India

Suryakumar Yadav has been the key for Mumbai Indians ever since he joined the franchise in 2018 He has scored 512 runs that year for the franchise followed by 400-plus seasons in IP 2019 and 2020. He scored 317 runs in IPL 2021.
Since his comeback to the side after missing the first few games, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 200 runs in just four matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. All the other batsmen including skipper Rohit Sharma had struggled so far in the season.
Recalling an incident from his birthday in 2020, SKY spoke about how Rohit Sharma motivated him to play for India. Surya was always a consistent run-scorer for Maharashtra in domestic cricket. However, his talent was only recognised once he started playing for Mumbai Indians and started batting at number three.

“Rohit Sharma was always behind me – pushing me to work hard, he use to tell. If you are scoring, score again in next game and then one after that also’ – keep knocking that door of selection, if it doesn’t open, break it down,” said Suryakumar on Gaurav Kapoor’s show Breakfast with Champions.
Despite Mumbai losing all of their first six games of this IPL season so far, Suryakumar Yadav is not ready to throw in the towel just yet. He spoke about the side rebuilding after the mega auction and several impressive players waiting to be unravelled by the franchise.
“As you have seen, it is a fresh auction and we are building this team for the next three-four years, coming a few years down the line, you will see some great players coming out from this team,” Surya said at the virtual pre-match press conference.

Taking about SKY’s international career with India, he made his India debut at the age of 30 against England in Ahmedabad in 2021. He hit his first ball for a six facing against Jofra Archer. Later in the year, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka and won the Man of the Series award.
