IPL 2022: Takes A Brave Bloke To Give Up Captaincy, Well Done - Graeme Swann After Ravindra Jadeja Steps Down As CSK Skipper
Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann lauded Ravindra Jadeja for relinquishing the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise after poor results on Saturday evening.
Jadeja’s own performance had also taken a serious hit due to the burdens of captaincy and he handed the reins back over to MS Dhoni. CSK was also doing poorly on the field, losing 6 games out of the 8 played so far.
Therefore, in the interest of the team, Jadeja opted to step down and focus on himself considering he is a vital cog in the Indian team that will be playing a T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
“They can do anything, they are a very strong outfit, they could even win match after match and maybe even quality. What I want to say to Jadeja is that takes a brave bloke to do that because the male ego doesn’t want to say ‘you know I am not doing this job, I am not enjoying it’. He said the best for the team and the best for me is not to be skipper. So well done, it’s a brilliant move,” Swann told in a chat with Star Sports.
“It’s a move that all CSK fans probably want” – Graeme Swann
When it was confirmed that Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2022 season, many fans were quite surprised. However, they will now be happy to see both players do what they do best on the cricket field.
“It’s a move that all CSK fans probably want and expect but didn’t dare dream would happen. But now we are going to see the best of MSD leading with those gloves on,” Swann added.
