Former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Parthiv Patel were involved in a hilarious banter over Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) qualification in the IPL 2022 playoffs.

RCB rode on their fortunes as Mumbai Indians outsmarted Delhi Capitals in their final league stage to end Rishabh Pant and his men’s chances of making through to the playoffs.

RCB were placed in the fourth position with 16 points ahead of the MI-DC clash. All that Capitals were requited to do was to win against the five-time IPL champions to seal their playoffs berth on a better NRR to RCB.

However, Singapore-born batter Tim David’s blaze, sloppy fielding and some poor captaincy calls took the onus away from the Capitals.

Parthiv Patel didn’t want RCB to qualify for IPL 2022 playoffs: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag, in a funny manner, mentioned that Parthiv, who played for both RCB and MI, wanted the Faf du Plessis & co to bow out of the tournament.

“If it had been in his (Patel’s) hands, he wouldn’t have gone to the stadium. Because he didn’t want RCB to qualify! (chuckles). He just went there because there were orders sent to him that they want to question him about something,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

There are so many wrong blames put on me: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv defended himself and gave the evidence of posting videos and pictures on social media in support of RCB.

You can check my reels of this season. I had RCB in the second position from the beginning. There are so many wrong blames put on me that I don’t want them to reach the playoffs. I had even posted on Instagram with an MI jersey but also with a red mask supporting them,” Parthiv said while laughing.

RCB have made it through the playoffs for the third time in a row, in the last two years, they were knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator fixture.

Sehwag said RCB never played bad cricket in those two games but the opposition felt very comfortable playing against them.

RCB didn’t play badly in the Eliminator. They try their best but the opposition’s self-confidence increases immensely when they come to know that they are playing them,” Sehwag said.

RCB will play KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator game this year.
