Mumbai Indians went all out behind Ishan Kishan (15. 25 Cr) and Jofra Archer (8Cr) and shelled out 23.25 crores to get the two players. However, at the end of the auction, co-owner Aakash Ambani was reasonably happy with the way the franchise went about their business in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar, former Indian batsman said that the franchise made a lot of compromises to attain the two big players.

“That this is a guy who’s not available this season, but they knew if we bid for him now, you can get him at a very cheap price for 2023 and 2024 but half the purse spent on two players and hence the caution with the others.

“As a result, we are not looking at a star-studded Mumbai Indians team, normally you see some big names in that team, but they made a lot of compromises to get Ishan and Jofra,” said the former Indian cricketer.

Akash Ambani also spoke about his team’s choices after the auction. He specifically spoke about Archer who drew a lot of eyeballs with Mumbai bagging him for a high price despite all the reports regarding his fitness and availability. Aakash explained the reason as to why Mumbai went big behind him.

“Jofra has been a player Mahela gave his first professional debut to and since then we have been thinking about them as a pair. So happy that we got them together. Although he is going to play next year, we are very happy to have Jofra and Bumrah make a lethal pair for our bowling attack,” he said confirming that Archer will be available from IPL 2023 for the franchise.

Apart from Kishan and Archer, Daniel Sams, Tim David and Tymal Mills were the other overseas picks of the franchise. Mumbai Indians had previously retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard during the retention window and bought the remaining players with a remaining purse of 48 crores.
