David Warner has scored 265 runs from six games in IPL 2022 so far at a strike rate of 158.18 and an average of 52.20. He has had a memorable start to his second stint with Delhi Capitals notching up three fifties already in just six games. Matthew Hayden has praised the Australian opener for the way he has come back to Delhi Capitals. The franchise signed up Warner for 6.26 crores.
David Warner scored 42 off 26 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders as he anchored an easy chase for the side giving them their fourth win of the season. This win also keeps them alive in the IPL 2022 playoffs race.
Meanwhile, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has praised the southpaw for syncing seamlessly with Delhi Capitals for his second tenure with the franchise. He further said no matter which franchise Warner is playing, he looks a special player when he gets going.
“No matter what bowlers, what franchise he plays for. When he does get going, David Warner is a very very special player. He obviously uses the pace (of the ball) very well but you never see a slide in his game, he never sort of decelerates in his game,” Hayden said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Live.
Hayden further lauded for maintaining his fitness and has praised his mentality to bat deep into the innings. Against KKR, he batted till almost the 10th over, setting a proper base for his side to take advantage in the final overs.
David Warner Uses His Fitness And Looks To Bat Deep: Matthew Hayden
“I think his opening partner Prithvi Shaw is scoring pretty heavily at the start. Shaw’s strike rate through the powerplay is very high but David Warner uses his fitness well and looks to bat deep. He knows how to pace his innings,” he added.
Delhi needs to win all their remaining six games to give themselves the best chance of making it to the playoffs. They are currently sixth on the points table with 8 points from as many games.
