Quinton de Kock’s magnificent century in the IPL 2022 opener on Wednesday did not surprise former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri.
The South African, according to Shastri, has a history of demolishing bowling attacks. He applauded de Kock for ending with a 200-plus strike rate and remained unblemished after 20 overs.
At the DY Patil Stadium, the 29-year-old hit an undefeated 140 off 70 deliveries for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). De Kock and LSG captain KL Rahul put up a 210-run opening stand (68 off 51).
Shastri highlighted ESPNcricinfo regarding Quinton de Kock’s innings, which included ten fours and as many sixes:
“Quinton de Kock is known for annihilating attacks. This is something he has done numerous times for South Africa. For most IPL teams for whom he has played, he has consistently contributed the 50s to 80s. What superb strokeplay to score 140 not out and attack like that for 20 overs!”
“He was sweeping and reverse-sweeping the spinners, cutting and pulling the pacers. He hit runs all over the place and didn’t let the bowlers get comfortable” he added.
Ravi Shastri discusses Quinton de Kock’s outstanding performance:
Ravi Shastri highlighted that Quinton de Kock played with a simple objective and that his determination not to slow down made a difference in the high-scoring match. According to the former India coach,
“The coolest thing about de Kock’s batting being that he hadn’t modified his intensity after he understood he had a strong pattern going.” Batters frequently consider playing out a potentially dangerous bowler. But he had one goal in mind: to continue to hit and hit” Ravi Shastri Said.
KKR gave LSG a concern as they were chasing 211. Kolkata remained in the game thanks to Rinku Singh’s 15-ball 40, but Lucknow won by two runs.
