Virender Sehwag, the former India opener, is known for his amusing tweets on social media. His recent ‘vada pav’ tweet, however, did not go over well with Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma’s followers.

Sehwag hailed KKR all-rounder Pat Cummins for hitting the joint-fastest fifty in IPL 2022 in his display balls style after the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated MI by five wickets in their IPL match on Wednesday in Pune.

It was like stealing the vada pav from the MI players, Sehwag said, referring to Mumbai’s favorite food, vada pav.

The veteran cricketer Virender Sehwag took to his own Twitter account to say, “Moonh se nivala cheen liya ,, sorry vada pav cheen liya. Pat Cummins, one of the most insane display of clean hitting, 15 balls 56.”

Sehwag’s tweet generated outrage among Rohit Sharma fans, who chastised him for making the analogy.

Virender Sehwag clarified his statement in the following tweet:

The former opener clarified his position and sent out another tweet, urging MI captain fans to calm down. He explained that the Vada Pav allusion is to Mumbai and that he is a larger fan of the current India captain’s batting than others.

He stated in another tweet, “The Vada Pav allusion is to Mumbai, a city known for its Vada Pav. Fans of Rohit Sharma, Thandballsthat lo, I am a lot larger fan of his batting than most of you.”

When Cummins entered the game, KKR needed 61 runs off 41 deliveries. In the 16th over, the Australian all-rounder thrashed Sams for four sixes and two fours as Kolkata cruised to victory.

Ahead of his batting efforts, the 28-year-old got 2 important MI wickets, dismissing Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav respectively. However, he came at a cost, as he let up 49 runs in four overs.

On April 9, the Mumbai Indians will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
