Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy saw the back of Mumbai Indians (MI) young and dynamic batter, Dewald Brevis, on the latter’s debut in the IPL 2022 season.
Brevis was slotted into the playing XI in the place of Tim David. He signaled his intentions from the get-go, looking actively to put the bowlers under pressure. Brevis did the same to Chakravarthy.
On the very first ball from the spinner, Brevis played a stunning no-look shot for a massive 81-m six over deep mid-wicket. He failed to get a run off the next three balls before being outdone by Chakravarthy courtesy a lightning-quick stumping from Sam Billings.
Brevis lunged hard and tried to slog sweep a full-length delivery. He missed and Sam Billings was sharp behind the stumps, instantly dislodging the bails and ending Brevis’ 19-ball 29.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma had another terrible outing in the season. He played 12 balls for his 3 runs before being dismissed by the purple cap holder, Umesh Yadav. It is Rohit’s third consecutive failure in the IPL 2022 season.
MI playing XI:
Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Dewald Brevis, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi.
