Young Delhi batsman Ayush Badoni (19 * off 9 balls) hit a six to level the score against Chennai Super Kings and then hit the winning runs against CSK to give Lucknow Supergiants their first win of IPL 2022. Badoni along with Evin Lewis (55*) added an unbeaten 40-run stand to help Lucknow bear Chennai.
Gautam Gambhir, the LSG mentor was ecstatic as his side beat the defending champions early on in the new campaign. He had the loudest cheer when he saw Badoni take Lucknow to a win against Chennai. The visuals of Gambhir went viral after Lucknow won the high-scoring encounter.
Ayush Badoni who became the talk of the two after Lucknow’s win spoke exclusively with Times Of India and had a special mention for Gambhir who drafted him into the side. He first spoke about the knock that he played for Lucknow.
“I am grateful to the Lucknow family and my captain KL Rahul and Gautam bhaiya (Gautam Gambhir) for giving me a chance in the team???s first match. They showed faith in me and I am happy that I delivered,” said Badoni.
Speaking about his interaction with Gautam Gambhir after the win, he said how the southpaw welcomed him after he went to the dressing room.
“I stayed calm before hitting the six (to tie the scores). When I hit that (almost) match-winning six, I was so happy that I had done the job for my team. KL (Rahul ) applauded me.
“Once I went inside the dressing room Gautam bhaiya came up to me and hugged me and said “well played, keep going,” the youngster added.
Lucknow Supergiants next play against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the DY Patil Stadium on April 4.
