Senior Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli’s batting woes continued to haunt him once again on Wednesday night against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and put RCB into bat first, RCB dented blows in the first over as LSG pacer Dushmantha Chameera reduced them to seven for two in the first over itself.

Chameera used the extra bounce to send off RCB opener Anuj Rawat on the fifth ball, not to forget the spectacular diving effort by Rahul to complete the catch at mid-off. Chameera didn’t stop there and dismissed Kohli for a golden duck as the batter got a thick edge off the extra bounce and flew to Deepak Hooda at the backward point.

Virat Kohli completes 100 competitive matches without scoring a century

Kohli recorded his seventh duck in 206 IPL innings, it was his fourth golden duck as well. The former RCB skipper has now scored just 119 runs in seven innings this season with his previous scores in the last six innings reading: 12, 1, 48, 5, 12, 41*.

Kohli entered an uncertain record of not scoring a century in 100 competitive matches as he played 17 Tests, 21 One-Day Internationals, 25 T20 Internationals, and 37 IPL games without registering a three-figure score. His last international hundred (136) came against Bangladesh in the Day-Night Test affair in Kolkata in November 2019.

Virat Kohli is overcooked, he needs a break: Ravi Shastri

Former India head coach and Kohli’s close aide Ravi Shastri reckoned the former India and RCB captain to take a break in order to regain his regular form.

“I am going straight to the main guy here. Virat Kohli is overcooked. If anyone needs a break, it’s him. Whether it’s 2 months or a month-and-a-half, whether it’s after England or before England,” Shastri told Star Sports.

“He needs a break because he has got 6-7 years of cricket left in him and you don’t want to lose that with a fried brain. He is not the only one. There might be 1 or 2 in world cricket going through the same. You need to address the problem upfront,” Shastri added.

Kohli’s batting struggles didn’t bother RCB’s match result against LSG anyhow as Faf du Plessis, who replaced Kohli as the team leader, guided them to 181 through his valiant 64-ball 96, including 11 fours and a couple of sixes. RCB outplayed LSG by 18 runs as Josh Hazlewood (4/25) led the team’s defence in the second innings.
