Young South African sensation Dewald Brevis, famously known as ‘Baby AB’, said that the legendary Proteas batter AB de Villiers is a great human being and having him as a mentor is special.
The 19-year-old Brevis was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 3 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.
Dewald Brevis didn’t get the opportunity to play all the game for the Rohit Sharma and Co. in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but the young batter did a good job in the games he got and impressed everyone in his debut season.
Overall, the 19-year-old played 7 games and smashed 161 runs at an average of 23.00 and an impressive strike rate of 142.47. He had also shown his power-hitting skills by smashing 113m six in the Indian Premier League 2022.
He is really one of the best – Dewald Brevis on AB de Villiers
After the final league stage game of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2022, the young proteas batter caught up with 19-year-old batter Tilak Varma and said that he grew up idolising the former South Africa captain De Villiers.
Brevis added that he had met De Villiers during his school days as they both attended the same school and labelled the former Proteas batter as “one of the best”.
“Yes look, you’re always growing up idolising him, really watch him on TV or next to the field. Ya, I have met him before a few times, met him at my school, he also attended the same school.
“So, just to get to know him, he is such a great human being and to learn from him, he gives more pieces of advice and he is really one of the best. Having him as a mentor is special to me,” Brevis said.
Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Brevis scored 37 runs off 33 balls, including one four and 3 sixes in their last league stage game against Delhi Capitals (DC) to defeat Rishabh Pant and Co. by 5 wickets.
Also, Mumbai Indians (MI) helped AB de Villiers’ former team, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
