Delhi Capitals played the most important game of IPL 2022 on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium as they had to win the game at any cost to qualifying for the playoffs.

But, in the end, they lost the game by 5 wickets with 5 balls remaining. Rishabh Pant was not a satisfied captain as he felt disappointed with the loss.

We Could Have Done Better Execution: Rishabh Pant

Batting first, DC lost David Warner early. In fact, they lost 3 wickets in the powerplay. But then Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell brought DC back into the game. Rishabh Pant and Powell added 75 runs but then both got out quickly in the end overs in trying to accelerate in the end overs. Axar Patel in the end played a 10 ball 19 cameo to take DC’s total to 159 runs.

DC started well with the ball as Khaleel Ahmed just bamboozled Rohit Sharma with his swinging deliveries. Rohit got out for just 2. Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis scored 48 runs and 37 runs respectively and pulled things back for MI.

But then DC got back into the game again as they got the Wickets of Kishan and Brevis in quick succession.

They would have gotten Tim David’s wicket too had Pant reviewed the on-field decision but it was not to be. David made them pay big time as he scored 34 runs in 11 balls and ended all the hopes of DC.

After the game, Pant said, “For most of the game we were on top. On occasions, we let the game slip away from our grabs when we were on top. That’s what we were doing throughout the season. Not good enough to win this match I guess. It’s not about pressure. We could have done better execution and planning. Learn from mistakes and come back stronger next year. We were 5-7 runs short but we bowled really well. We bowled well throughout the tournament, but dew came in towards the end and we didn’t bowl to our plans. It’s hard but we got to take it on our chin and learn from it.”

When asked about not reviewing David’s caught behind, he said, “I thought there was something Everyone standing in the circle wasn’t convinced and at the end I didn’t go up. We were discussing (with Ponting) that we will tell bowlers to keep it simple. Just keep doing what is working for us and keep believing.”

DC would rue the chances they missed as their faith was in their own hands.
