N Tilak Varma Bought By Mumbai Indians For INR 1.7 Crore In IPL 2022 Mega Auction

The 19-year-old Indian cricketer N Tilak Varma was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.7 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on day 2 of the event at the Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru.

N Tilak Varma is a left-handed batsman and a part-time right-arm spin bowler. He made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy and he made his T20 debut for Hyderabad in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Also, he was part of India’s squad for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020.

Talking about his T20 numbers, he has scored 381 runs in 15 games at an average of 29.30 and an amazing strike rate of 143.77, including 3 fifties.

Tilak Varma had set INR 20 lakh as his base price for the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad made the opening bid for the Hyderabad batsman and Rajasthan Royals made the counter bid for N Tilak Varma. Sunrisers Hyderabad dragged the bid up to INR 50 lakh and Rajasthan Royals kept fighting. After Sunrisers Hyderabad’s exit, Chennai Super Kings joined the fray and they were engaged in a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals for Verma.

Soon Mumbai Indians joined the battle and they pushed the price past INR 1 crore and they were successful in bringing Tilak Varma to the squad for 1.7 crores.

Meanwhile, on day 1 Mumbai Indians bought back wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan for a whopping INR 15.25 crore and Proteas Dewala Brevis for INR 3 Crore other than that they have not made any big purchase at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction.
