Ambati Rayudu played on with an injured wrist as Chennai Super Kings stumbled to yet another defeat once he was dismissed chasing 188 to win against Punjab Kings. Rayudu had to leave the field early as he got hit on his wrist while fielding.
CSK were reduced to 40 / 3 when Ambati Rayudu walked out to bat. He scored 78 off 39 balls which included seven fours and six sixes in scintillating innings. His dismissal in the 18th over of CSK’s chase proved to be the turning point with the side failing to get over the finishing line.
Rayudu also took on Sandeep Sharma and scored 22 runs from the final over of his spell.
After the end of the game, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming provided an update on Rayudu’s injury. The commentators criticised him for not his lack of stamina in the final overs but Fleming made it clear that he was facing difficulties with his wrist injury.
His Hand Was Bruising: Stephen Fleming On Ambati Rayudu’s Injury
“The first check was around the break and his hand was bruising. It was just a case of icing that and getting that down and I think a little padding around the glove. It was the same hand that was broken sometime back, so it’s still pretty tender and a knock like that can obviously cause some damage,” revealed Fleming.
CSK have now lost six out of their eight games in IPL 2022 so far. They are placed ninth on the points table with six more matches to go. Getting into the playoffs from here on looks a bit tough for the Yellow Army from here on.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are topping the table with 12 points followed by SRH, LSG, RR and RCB all on 10 points each. The top four teams will make it to the playoffs. The final will be played on May 29.
