Virat Kohli was dismissed for his fifth golden duck on Saturday, infuriating his fans even more, and Sunil Gavaskar discusses what’s completely mistaken with Kohli these days.
Kohli, who hasn’t scored a century in any format in over three years, has been dismissed for ducks in consecutive games, following a set of dismissals outside the off-stump.
Virat Kohli is going through a difficult period. He hasn’t scored an international century in almost two years, not to mention the personal hardships he suffered in 2021.
What does it take to have a horrible year when your leadership is taken away and you come last in the ICC T20 World Cup? And here he was, scoring two-forty in the first two games of the IPL 2022 before everything came to a standstill.
He went out for his fifth golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, and fans and commentators alike were confident that this was not a fluke. This was a terrible experience.
‘It’s very difficult to analyze what’s going on: Sunil Gavaskar
Marco Jansen, who dismissed him with a behemoth of a ball, had previously battled in South Africa. This time, the speed and motion on offer were too much for him. The ball touched his bat and also was smartly caught at slips by Aiden Markram. This was his fifth golden duck in the Indian Premier League.
Sunil Gavaskar said, “It’s difficult to analyze what’s going on when a batsman is out on the first ball. You can tell if a batsman’s foot is shifting or his batting isn’t coming together after only a few deliveries. However, I believe it is simply anxiousness that causes a batsman to be out on the first ball. The impatience to get the bat to the ball and start hitting.”
“The best thing would be if the openers did a fantastic job. He’s out in powerplay at the moment. So maybe if the openers can bat for six-eight overs, it’ll be a little different,” Sunil Gavaskar said during the innings break to the host broadcaster.
RCB lost by nine wickets after being dismissed for just 68 runs with 72 balls remaining as SRH chased down the score.
