Aakash Chopra praised Moeen Ali for his outstanding all-round effort in the IPL 2022 encounter seen between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Rajasthan Royals on Friday (May 20). (RR).
CSK set a 151-run goal for RR after Ali scored 93 runs off only 57 deliveries. He then went on to have statistics of 1/21 in four overs, but he couldn’t prevent Sanju Samson’s team from triumphing by five wickets with two delivery to play.
Chopra emphasized Ali’s significance for the defending champions in a video posted on his YouTube channel after studying the CSK-RR match. According to the former Indian batter:
“Let’s be realistic, he (Moeen) is the backbone of this team. Yes, we speak about Ruturaj, Devon Conway, and others, but this squad will have a lot of issues if Moeen Ali somehow doesn’t perform effectively. If you triumphed last year, it was mostly due to Moeen Ali’s performance.”
“The role gets tricky when he doesn’t strike. If Chennai could not do well this year, one major reason was that he was unavailable for a long period of time, was injured or out of the squad, and the team’s first games were not particularly successful.”
‘Moeen Ali was just outstanding’: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra commented on Moeen Ali’s performance in Yesterday’s match, saying the left-hander made a spectacle of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s early demise. He explained:
“It appeared that you were trapped when Trent Boult put Ruturaj Gaikwad out for the first wicket in the first over. Then came Moeen Ali, who hit some incredible shots. He was simply outstanding.”
Chopra finished by stating that Ali was the most outstanding player in the CSK-RR match. He said:
“He came up just short of a century with a score of 93. After that, he also bowled, picking up a wicket and being economical. There is no doubt that Moeen was the best player of the day in my opinion. He did everything he could on his end and even caught a pass.”
In the ten matches he played in IPL 2022, Ali scored 244 runs at a below-par average of 24.40. His only half-century in the competition came on Friday.
