RR vs CSK: We Believed In Our Bowlers - Sanju Samson After 5-Wicket Win Over CSK

It was an important game for Rajasthan Royals in the context of what position they qualify for the playoffs. A win would have meant they would qualify from the 2nd position and a loss meant they would have qualified from the 3rd position. In the end, they won the game by 5 wickets courtesy of a brilliant inning by Ravichandran Ashwin as he scored 40 runs off just 23 balls.

Sanju Samson was a happy man as his side finished at the 2nd spot in the points table.

RR started well with the ball as they got Ruturaj Gaikwad out early but then came the assault from Moeen Ali as he scored a half-century in just 19 balls. But then RR pulled things back in the middle overs.

We Did Well To Restrict Them To 150: Sanju Samson

Eventually, CSK managed just 150 runs as Ali scored 93 runs. MS Dhoni struggled as he managed just 26 runs from 28 balls.

RR’s chase did not start well as they lost Jos Buttler very early in their chase. But then Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson brought RR back into the chase. Though, as soon as the CSK spinners came into the attack RR was set right on the back foot as they lost wickets in the cluster. But then Ravichandran Ashwin got RR over the line as he scored 40 runs off just 23 balls.

Sanju Samson after the game said, “Feels really good, it has been standout. Almost everyone has stood out for us. It was important to understand they have quality batters. I didn’t expect to come back so strong so well. It was a great effort. I wanted to bring him after the powerplay, he also had really great change ups. Cricket is a funny game. They had quality bowlers, but Ashwin has done a great job for us, he has turned out to be a great all-rounder for us.” 

Sanju Samson will hope that R Ashwin can continue the same form going into the playoffs.
