Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer and commentator, spoke on Thursday that Rajasthan Royals (RR) spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin may have an issue if the playing surface at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is flat and not conducive to spin bowling.
On Friday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Qualifier 2 will be played between RR and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo that if the playing surface is not favorable to spinners, the RR spin bowler will try a variety of variability. RR has an advantage, according to the former cricketer, because they have two demonstrated spinners on the team.
“Ravichandran Ashwin is a concern for RR on flat tracks because he tries so many different things. In such instances, he bowls fewer offspinners. When there is a turn, he transforms into a dangerous bowler. If the pitch is favorable for spinners, RR will stand to gain because Chahal and Ashwin will bowl in tandem “Manjrekar spoke to ESPNcricinfo.
‘Death bowling has been a weakness for RR’: Sanjay Manjrekar
Manjrekar applauded RR fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy. He believes that while these two bowlers could be the better decision for RR in the death overs.
Sanjay Manjrekar informed the sports website, “RR has a weakness in death bowling. Trent Boult is a world-class seamer, but he has to bowl with the new ball because his record in the death overs is not wonderful.”
“They had also backed Prasidh Krishna, who has completed well this season. Obed McCoy has proven to be a standout performer, and they will rely on him to deliver” Sanjay Manjrekar Said.
Qualifier-2 will be played on Friday between RR and RCB at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
