The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway batted exceptionally well in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday, May 1.

Devon Conway, who came in as a replacement for unfit Dwayne Bravo in the Chennai Super Kings playing XI, got an opportunity to open the innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Gaikwad-Conway duo batted cautiously in the powerplay overs as in the first three overs, they scored 3, 6 and 9 runs and in the next three overs, they scored 5, 8 and 9 runs. They completed 50 runs partnership in 45 balls with Gaikwad contributing 34 runs and Conway contributing 15 runs.

Also, Conway and Gaikwad completed 100 runs partnership in 65 balls with Gaikwad contributing 66 runs and Conway contributing 29 runs.

Gaikwad and Conway had a sensational 182 runs partnership off 107 balls before Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) left-arm pacer T Natarajan broke the gigantic partnership between Chennai Super Kings openers by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 18th over.

The 25-year-old was very unfortunate as he fell just 1 run short of a well-deserving century and scored 99 runs off 57 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes. Conway on the other hand remained unbeaten and smashed 85 runs off 55 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Notably, the 182 runs partnership between Gaikwad and Conway is the highest partnership for Chennai in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they overtook Shane Watson-Faf du Plessis’ record of 181 runs partnership, which they had registered during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
