Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs on Monday and all the focus was on Nicholas Pooran. The southpaw scored 34 off 24 balls coming in at number five but could not take his side home in the game. SRH have now two out of two games and is still languishing at the bottom of the table.
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri in his analysis of the SRH vs LSG game said that Pooran needs to play his natural game and not worry about the players coming behind him. He also said that he can start playing shots from the very starts if he thinks that’s the right approach.
“I would give Pooran some time, but I would also tell him to just play his game and not worry about the rest. If you get into the groove and feel like smacking it and upping the tempo and taking the strike rate up much earlier than what the team would expect, then do it. Because if he starts thinking too much and thinking towards the end, that’s when such players at times lose their rhythm” said Shastri.
England all-rounder Sam Curran who was also a part of that discussion said that Nicholas Pooran is an important cog in the SRH batting line-up. Pooran smashed Avesh Khan for a six in the same over that he was dismissed. Curran also felt that the wicket-ball should have gone for a six but instead was caught on the boundary line.
Nicholas Pooran Is A Huge Player For SRH: Sam Curran
“It’s one of those things that the ball should have gone out of the park as it was in the slot. But it doesn’t really always go your way. Pooran is a huge player for SRH and he’s the one they should stick with and keep letting him fire because he’s such a big player for them and hopefully he’ll come good very soon” Curran said.
Lucknow successfully defended their total of 169 and won by 12 runs. They next play Delhi Capitals at The DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on April 7. After back-to-back losses, SRH next takes on CSK at the DY Patil Stadium on April 9 looking to get back to winning ways.
