The IPL 2022 is all set to get the stage on fire as there will be two new teams joining the tournament and the captaincy for each team is going to be a big mystery. The two new teams that will be joining are Lucknow and Ahmedabad and a mega auction will take place soon for the next season.

Each of the eight teams has been allowed to retain four players while the two new teams will retain three players from the remaining. It is time to look at team-wise one player who can be a potential captain in IPL 2022.

Team Wise One Player Who Can Be A Potential Captain In IPL 2022

Jos Buttler – RR

Jos Buttler will be one of the favourites to captain the Rajasthan Royals side in the upcoming IPL despite Sanju Samson showing glimpses of good form. Samson had an excellent run of form with the bat in this year’s edition, however, he failed to take his side to the chances of glory.

Royals finished seventh in the points table this year and that could be a worry for the side who haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2018. Buttler will be a match-winner at the top of the order and he might relish the captaincy responsibility for the Royals.

Mayank Agarwal – PBKS

Mayank Agarwal had captained the Punjab Kings at times in the absence of regular skipper KL Rahul and he could possibly be the next captain. The right-hander is an experienced campaigner in IPL and deserves a run with the captaincy.

Agarwal’s consistency levels have been excellent in the last few years for the Punjab Kings at the top of the order. He has captained Karnataka in the domestic circuit and will be an option for captaincy if Rahul wants to leave the franchise.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – SRH

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past and he is always going to be a captaincy option in IPL. He served as the vice-captain of India in the previous tour of Sri Lanka and has done a good job in the past.

Bhuvneshwar hasn’t looked the same he was before three to four years and is on the verge of losing his spot in the Indian side as well. Sunrisers Hyderabad do not have many Indian options to captain and Bhuvneshwar will be ideal if they do need an Indian skipper instead of Kane Williamson.

Jasprit Bumrah – MI

Jasprit Bumrah has been silently creeping up in the role for captaincy and a lot of experts have already suggested he become the vice-captain of India. Bumrah is a consistent performer for both India and the Mumbai Indians in IPL.

The right-arm quick has got a lot of excellent strategies and he has always been thinking one step ahead of the batters. He can be a perfect choice if Rohit Sharma wants to take a rest at times in the upcoming IPL editions.

Glenn Maxwell – RCB

With both Ab De Villiers and Virat Kohli being ruled out of captaincy options, RCB might have to think about grooming a new skipper. They are most likely to look out for skippers from the auction pool for IPL 2022.

However, if they have to name one player who can be the captain of the side from their current form, Glenn Maxwell would be an excellent choice. The Australian was fantastic in this IPL as he finished as the top run-scorer for the franchise.

Prithvi Shaw – DC

Delhi Capitals have a lot of potential captains in their side, however, the most likely candidate who will get the nod will be Prithvi Shaw. Shreyas Iyer has recently revealed his desire to be an IPL captain and there are chances of him leaving the franchise ahead of the mega auction.

Shaw captained the Mumbai side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year and won the tournament for them. He will be the potential choice if Iyer is not retained with Rishabh Pant being the current captain of the side.

Shubman Gill – KKR

Shubman Gill is an exciting prospect who is very young and could be groomed as a captain for the future. Eoin Morgan was brilliant in leading the side to the finals, however, his personal form hasn’t been that good.

KKR will be looking at the future of the side and the best potential captain to lead the side will be Shubman Gill. The right-hander had a decent UAE phase of IPL 2021.

Ravindra Jadeja – CSK

Ravindra Jadeja has been at the peak of his career with excelling in all three departments. The left-hander has been taking care of the finishing duties for the Chennai Super Kings side and he has been consistent in his bowling methods as well.

Jadeja won the man of the match award in the last two games of the T20 World cup 2021 for India and he adds a lot of value to any side. With MS Dhoni approaching towards the end of his career, CSK will be looking to hand over the duties to Jadeja.

David Warner – Lucknow

David Warner may not have been in the plans for the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captaincy as he was sacked in the middle of the season and was replaced by Kane Williamson. This will mean that Warner might leave the franchise and the two new teams will be looking out for him.

Lucknow team is the most likely prospect of taking Warner as the captain as they have been looking for an experienced seasoned campaigner. Warner is very consistent at the top of the order and will be a huge asset to any side in terms of captaincy as well.

Shreyas Iyer – Ahmedabad

Shreyas Iyer is likely to be released by the Delhi franchise despite his efforts for the side since 2019 as he wants to take up the captaincy. This has opened up the options for Iyer to move into a new franchise where he can straightway take up the captaincy.

Iyer has led Delhi to a playoffs spot twice in two consecutive seasons and deserves to be the skipper of any side in IPL. Ahmedabad being a new franchise will target a new captain as well.
