Indian skipper Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs in a single IPL season when he smashed 973 runs in 16 games in the IPL 2016 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. It needs an extraordinary effort from any batsman to go past Kohli’s tally and the closest to the landmark has been David Warner with 848 runs in the same year.
Kohli was in prime form in the 2016 season as he scored four centuries and 7 fifties averaging 81.08 with the bat. He single-handedly won games for RCB in the season and almost pulled off their maiden IPL trophy against Sunrisers in the final. IPL 2021 could witness new records broken and it will be interesting to see if any player breaks the record for the most runs in a single season.

IPL 2021: 5 Players Who Can Break The Record Of Most Runs In A Single Season:
5. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan was the leading run-scorer for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 and brought up back to back centuries. His consistency was excellent in the last season and averages nearly 35 in his overall IPL career. He can be very hard to bowl if he is in good form with the bat.
Dhawan finished with 617 runs in 17 games for the Delhi Capitals in their previous season despite his poor form in the first half of the tournament. He will surely be one of those contenders to go past the Kohli’s tally if he stays consistent throughout the tournament.
4. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been ordinary over the years in the IPL which is very surprising and this could be one of those years, he establishes his authority for Mumbai Indians too. He holds the highest individual score in ODI cricket and also the most number of centuries in a single world cup with five centuries. He has been very consistent with the bat after moving up the order.
He can break any of the records in the game and this is one record that he will have an eye on with his excellent recent form too. He also holds the record for the most number of T20 international centuries.
3. Chris Gayle

The big man from Jamaica had an immediate impact after coming into the playing XI and is expected to start for the Punjab Kings. If he manages to get into his groove, he will get to a century in no time with his destructive batting. The 41-year-old holds the record for the most number of centuries in IPL so far.
Gayle averages more than 41 in his IPL career and has ripped apart a lot of bowling attacks. His 175 not out for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors is the highest individual score in T20 cricket still and he is one of those contenders to go past Kohli’s tally.
2. KL Rahul

Rahul bagged the orange cap in IPL 2020 and was excellent with the bat after taking over the captaincy from R Ashwin. He carried the team on his own single-handedly on many occasions but couldn’t get the results he would have liked. He finished with 670 runs in the 14 games he played last year.
He has been among the runs for the last three editions and his 50 off just 14 deliveries in the 2018 IPL will go down as one of those blistering knocks. His consistency has been excellent with the bat and he can deliver on a big note which makes him a strong contender to break Kohli’s record.
1.David Warner

David Warner won the orange in IPL 2019 and is a very dangerous batsman when it comes to IPL. He averages more than 42 in his IPL career and has been the most consistent batsman in the IPL in recent years. He has hit four centuries in his overall IPL campaign so far.
Warner had an average season last year but despite that, he finished with 548 runs in 16 games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad as the third-highest run-scorer in the previous edition. It will only be a matter of time for the Australian to get past Kohli’s record as he is the second in the list of highest run-scorers in a single IPL season.
