In a piece of upsetting news for the Delhi Capitals amid IPL 2021, paceman Anrich Nortje has tested positive for COVID-19. The development came into light while he was serving quarantine in India after flying from South Africa for the marquee tournament. Anrich Nortje testing positive would mean that Chris Woakes should retain his spot for the Delhi Capitals’ upcoming clash against the Rajasthan Royals.

Anrich Nortje was part of the ODI series at home against Pakistan and played in the first two matches before departing for IPL. He bagged seven wickets in those couple of games at 16.29, keeping an economy rate of 5.70. Nortje was also one of the significant reasons for the Delhi Capitals’ dominance last year as he took 22 wickets in 16 fixtures at 23.27. The Proteas fast bowler came as a replacement for Chris Woakes, who pulled out of IPL last year.

Anrich Nortje was to lead the Capitals’ bowling attack alongside Kagiso Rabada upon return in this year’s IPL, too; however, it would inevitably be delayed. Nevertheless, sources confirmed to ANI that the right-arm speedster tested positive while under isolation after coming to India with a negative report. “He came in with a negative report, but has unfortunately tested positive now while undergoing quarantine,” the source claimed.
