Chennai Super Kings ( CSK ) will kick off their UAE leg of the IPL 2021 with a battle against defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 19.

Meanwhile, the rivalry between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians is the biggest rivalry in the history of the tournament. So far the teams have faced each other in 31 games with Mumbai Indians being the dominant side. As MI have won 19 games against CSK.

The most recent match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings took place in 1st half of IPL 2021. The match was at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi and fans were able to enjoy the nail-biting clash. Meanwhile, in the match, batting first CSK posted 218 runs on the board. Also, the bowlers were doing a decent job, still, with Kieron Pollard’s explosive innings, MI won the thrilling encounter.

However, in the MI vs CSK 2nd encounter in IPL 2021. There are some key players from both teams who will be missing the match.

The star England all-rounder Sam Curran won’t be available for selection in the first game of the IPL 2021 UAE leg. Notably, the English all-rounder has landed in UAE on Wednesday, September 15.

So, now he will have to complete the mandatory quarantine period of 6 days before he starts training with his teammates. Also during this time, he will have to go through several Covid-19 tests. And only if his tests are negative several times he will be allowed to come out of his room.

Sam Curran’s absence from the remarkable clash against Mumbai Indians is a huge blow for the Dhoni-led side. In the first phase of IPL 2021, Sam Curran played all 7 games and scalped 9 wickets, and scored 52 runs.

Kieron Pollard aka ‘Polly’ has been a regular Mumbai Indians member for a long time now. He has been with the side through thick and thin. Meanwhile, Pollard is a reliable member in playing XI as well, He has been backed by the team whenever he faced a rough patch in his IPL career. However, the West Indies veteran won’t be available for selection for the first game in IPL 2021 against CSK.

As per Covid-19 norms 2 days quarantine is mandatory for players returning from Caribbean Premier League (CPL). So if Kieron Pollard reaches UAE tomorrow his mandatory quarantine will be over on 18. Meanwhile, due to lack of training, he might miss the high-profile fixture against Chennai Super Kings.

His absence will definitely hurt the Mumbai Indians franchise. As he had an amazing outing in the first phase of IPL. Notably, Pollard managed to score 168 runs in 7 games at an average of 56 and strike rate of 171.42.

The availability of Proteas power hitters Faf Du Plessis is uncertain in the first game against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 UAE leg. Notably, the former Proteas captain suffered a groin injury during his stint in CPL 2021. He was in a stellar run in the league. However, due to an injury, he missed out on crucial games like Semi-final and Final.

The Chennai Super Kings will definitely miss the services of South African. As he was the highest run-getters for the franchise in the India leg of IPL 2021. Playing 7 games Faf Du Plessis was able to score 320 runs for MS Dhoni-led side at an average of 64.00. Also, Faf Du Plessis was the 3rd highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 India leg. Chennai Super Kings have to find a good replacement for Du Plessis if they want to defeat Mumbai Indians in the opening encounter.
