IPL 2021: Deep Dasgupta Questions SunRisers Hyderabad's Decision To Exclude David Warner From The Playing XI

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has been amongst the ones to slam SunRisers Hyderabad regarding David Warner’s axe from their latest match’s playing eleven. David Warner shockingly did not get the nod on Sunday for SunRisers Hyderabad’s playing eleven against the Rajasthan Royals, with the former suffering their sixth loss in IPL 2021. Deep Dasgupta stated that while Kane Williamson captaining is no problem, Warner deserved a spot in the playing XI.
David Warner’s sluggish fifty in a losing effort against the Chennai Super Kings in Delhi copped plenty of criticism. This year’s edition has seen the left-handed batsman operate at a strike rate of 110.28, contrary to his career strike rate of 140. Hence, Kane Williamson replaced him as captain. On Sunday, all-rounder Mohammad Nabi took his place in the playing eleven and he could not deliver impactful performance with the bat or ball.
Deep Dasgupta highlighted he earmarked SunRisers Hyderabad as one of his favourites. The former keeper-batsman understands that Natarajan’s and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury, along with David Warner’s depleted returns, have contributed to them falling apart; however, some decisions seemed baffling to him. Dasgupta fathoms Kane Williamson leading the side; however, he does not support Warner’s exclusion from the eleven.
“Pre-tournament, Sunrisers was one of my top-four teams but they just fell apart. Yes, Bhuvi and Natarajan got injured and Warner wasn’t in great form. But some of the decisions were baffling to me. Warner not playing was baffling to me. Yes, you have one of the top captains in Kane Williamson so you pass it on to him. But Warner, the batsman not playing, for me that is a little baffling,” Dasgupta told Sports Today.
SRH unit looks very unsettled: Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta believes that the Orange Army looks unsettled as all the combinations they have tried thus far have not paid rewards. The 43-year old underlined that having tried 21 out of 23-24 players already signals the lack of confidence within the dressing room.
“SRH unit looks very unsettled. They have played so many players, tried various combinations but it doesn’t seem to be working. I think they have already tried 21 players out of a squad of 23 or 24. That tells you how that dressing room is,” he added.
