Batting first Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted 164 runs on board at the loss of 7 wickets. Glenn Maxwell top-scored for the side with 57 runs under his belt. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami and Moises Henriques bagged 3-3 wickets for Punjab Kings.

Chasing the target KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started the chase in fashion scoring quick runs. They had an amazing 91 run partnership before Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed Rahul in the 11th over.

However, after a massively batting failure, Punjab Kings were unable to chase the target and now they are out of the playoffs race. Notably, other than Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul no batsman looked in good touch against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.

During the post-match presentation, the PBKS skipper said that he would have been very happy wearing the orange cap if Punjab Kings qualified for playoffs. He stated:

I wouldn’t say I haven’t enjoyed wearing it (the Orange Cap) but I would have been happier if we had qualified. It was a score that was par. Maybe 10-15 runs extra.”

Talking about Glenn Maxwell who smashed a half-century in the match, Rahul said:

When a guy like Maxwell comes in with that sort of form, it makes it difficult. But with the bat, the last couple of years have been disappointing.”

Further KL Rahul told that team’s batting unit has let them down. The PBKS skipper elaborated:

If I have to be honest, our batting has let us down. I’ll be lying if I say it doesn’t play on my mind that I play a role that the team demands. It’s not something that I enjoy, but when you lead the team, you have to accept the responsibility.”

KL Rahul signed off by saying that they don’t have a player in the middle order who can score quick runs for the team. However, he lauded Shahrukh Khan for doing well for the team. Rahul asserted:

In T20, the top two or three do score a bulk of the runs. You won’t have people in the middle order scoring 500-600 runs. But we have missed someone in the middle who scores those 30-40 quick runs. Shahrukh and some of the other Indian young guys have been going well.”
