MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings skipper, admitted that his side didn’t do so well but still managed a 2-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 38 of IPL 2021 on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.

The equation went down to 4 off 6 balls after Ravindra Jadeja had whacked Prasidh Krishna for two sixes and two fours in the 19th over. However, Sunil Narine picked a couple of wickets in the last over to take it down to 1 from 1, which Deepak Chahar managed to score and completed a close win for his side.

MS Dhoni, who scored 1 off 4 balls, said it was a “nice” and “enjoyable” win for his side, while acknowledging that the pitch was a good one for batting.

“It’s a nice victory to have. At times you play good cricket and you lose. It is enjoyable when you don’t do so well and still win. It was good cricket from both sides, and a pleasure for the spectators,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

Jadeja was named the Man of the Match for his blockbuster innings of 22 off 8 and bowling figures of 1/21.

“We bowled well in patches. It’s not easy for the fast bowlers. We tried to give them short spells. 170 was a par score, I felt off . When Jadeja was bowling, it was coming on and not stopping.”

KKR deserve some applause for making a game out of it: MS Dhoni

The CSK skipper also lauded the KKR bowlers for keeping the game alive till the last ball after opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis put on a 74-run opening stand in 8.2 over on a decent batting surface.

MS Dhoni asserted that CSK, who now have six consecutive wins in the UAE, have learnt from their mistakes from last season.

“The way we started, KKR deserve some applause for making a game out of it. We were also worried about how the wicket will be. When you keep playing on a wicket, groundsmen sometimes water it more and leave some more grass. [On six wins in a row in UAE] The important thing was to make the most of what we had learnt and to come back stronger,” the CSK skipper concluded.

With 16 points in their bag, and a playoff spot all but sealed, CSK will go to Sharjah, where they will meet the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
