Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni once again became the player with the most number of caught dismissals in IPL history during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday.

KKR’s ‘keeper Dinesh Karthik had earlier overtaken the former Indian skipper. Karthik had taken one catch each in Kolkata’s matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) during the second leg of IPL 2021. With those, he moved to 115 dismissals and one above Dhoni.

In today’s match against the Eoin Morgan-led side, Dhoni held on to two catches and went back above Karthik with 116 dismissals. He first held on to Venkatesh Iyer’s catch before grabbing Karthik’s wicket in a fitting manner to get back the record.

Meanwhile, Kolkata managed to set a target of 172 for the Men in Yellow. They lost their way during the middle overs phase due to a typical CSK strangle with the spinners. There was a late surge courtesy of Karthik’s lovely cameo of 26 off 11 balls.

This helped Morgan and co. to breach the 170-run mark and eventually end up with 171/6 on the board. Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers as he ended with figures of 2/20 in his quota of four overs. Sam Curran had a rough outing, conceding 56 runs in four overs, close to what he conceded (1/58) in the first leg against the same side.

Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad continued their excellent form as they put up another 50-run partnership within the powerplay. Both of them looked quite comfortable at the crease and have continued to chip away at the target.
