Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur expressed happiness after he continued his wicket-taking spree with two more crucial breakthroughs for his side against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday.

Thakur has developed a knack for picking up wickets just when his team needs it. On Sunday, he did the same. A partnership was building between Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi with both looking very aggressive. MS Dhoni brought the 29-year-old Thakur into the attack and he delivered off his very first ball.

I’m happy with the wickets I’m taking. It was hot out there today but I’m glad I was amongst the wickets and hopefully, we can get over the line,” Thakur said.

Lower order push sees KKR post a target of 172 despite Shardul Thakur’s excellent bowling effort

KKR lost their way in the middle-overs where the CSK spinners became dominant. Runs started coming at a snail’s pace. The pacers adopted the tried-and-tested strategy of slower balls and cutters on the UAE tracks and it worked. However, a great cameo from Dinesh Karthik ensured the KKR side went past the 170-run mark.

The whole idea was to come and bowl in the right areas, try to extract some cutters from the pitch, and nothing great apart from that. Afternoon games are always tricky under the lights.”

We can guess whether we can go after the target with a bit of dew setting in [later]. Let’s see how the chase pans out as it’s too early to say right now,” Thakur added.

Chennai is currently sitting in second place with seven wins in nine games whereas the KKR side has four wins in nine games and is in the fifth spot.
