Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a close 2-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 26, 2021, in Abu Dhabi in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) UAE leg. KKR mentor David Hussey revealed why Andre Russell didn’t bowl the 19th over, the most important one which was bowled by Prasidh Krishna and he went for 22 runs in that over.

The match was a closely fought one with KKR spinner Sunil Narine almost defending 4 runs in the final over after getting two wickets. CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had taken the game away from KKR with the bat after smashing 22 runs in the 19th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna when CSK needed 26 runs in the last two overs.

Had Andre Russell Not Gotten Injured, He Would Have Bowled The 19th Over: KKR Mentor David Hussey

David Hussey on Sunday said that if Andre Russell had not gotten injured then he probably would have bowled the 19th over for the side. Prasidh Krishna bowled the penultimate over and went for 22 runs as he was smashed for 2 sixes and 2 fours by Jadeja apart from two singles.

However, this was not the plan for the Kolkata Knight Riders as David Hussey revealed while answering a query by ANI during a virtual post-match press conference.

“Of course, when Andre went out of the park, he had one over to bowl. Was he going to bowl it, nobody really knows. He bowled particularly well upfront, so he probably was gonna bowl the 19th over. Prasidh Krishna has been an amazing death-over bowler for us. Yeah, he is definitely in our plans, unfortunately, he got beaten by a better player today in Jadeja. Knowing Prasidh Krishna, he is going to come back and dominate,” said Hussey.

Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana scored 45 and 37 respectively as KKR posted 171/6 in the allotted twenty overs. The final total was also mainly due to Dinesh Karthik’s cameo of 26* runs of 11 balls.

For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis both made scores in the forties, while Moeen Ali made 32. Jadeja’s cameo was enough for CSK to win the match by 2 wickets and with this victory, the yellow army went to the top of the points table with 8 wins from 10 games and 16 points to their name.
