Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw remained in awe of MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings skipper completed the chase in Qualifier 1 on Sunday in Dubai to take CSK to another IPL final.

CSK chased down the target of 173 in the last over, with MS Dhoni once again adding the finishing touches. Half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa set up the platform for Dhoni, who has been out of form this season. The CSK skipper capped off the chase with 18 runs off 6 balls, wherein he hit one six and three boundaries.

Prithvi Shaw, who scored 60 runs, said that Dhoni is “something different” and who took the game out of the hands of the Capitals. The young opener also feels fortunate to be around the time to see a great finisher and captain in action.

“MS Dhoni is something different, everyone knows that. We have seen him finish games so many times and it’s nothing new for him or for us to see him do that. He’s definitely a dangerous player whenever he bats.

“I feel very lucky to be in this atmosphere and get a chance to watch him as a batsman and a leader. He took the game away from us,” Prithvi Shaw said after the game.

I feel I should have played a longer innings: Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw struggled in the UAE leg as he made four scores of less than 20 at the season’s resumption. He returned to form against RCB scoring 48 runs, and continued it versus CSK.

The right-hander blasted 60 off 34 balls. However, his and Rishabh Pant’s fifties went in vain at the end. While Shaw was happy with his knock, he felt he should have batted for longer.

“I am happy with my knock, but I feel I should have played a longer innings. This is a lesson for me. When I am in the same situation again, I’ll try to bat for a longer time,” he said.

The 21-year-old backs his side to come good in Qualifier 2 when they will have another chance to reach the final.

“At the moment, we have to back each other. The entire team takes the responsibility for our performance, whether we win or lose. We’ll try and come back stronger in the next match. It’s a tough loss to digest for the team.

“However, we have one more match through which we can qualify for the Final and I believe in each and everyone in the team. They are all great players — talent and skill-wise. I really believe that we can do something special in the next match and go through to the Final,” Prithvi Shaw added.

By finishing in the top-two, DC gained the luxury of playing another match to reach the final. They will meet the winner of the Eliminator between RCB and KKR, in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday in Sharjah.
