40 of the total 56 games of the IPL 2021 group stage have been completed, but not a single team has qualified for the playoffs yet. The IPL 2021 was suspended in May earlier this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 29 games had taken place in the first leg. The 2nd leg commenced on September 19, with UAE as the new venue.

Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have managed to dominate the top spot in IPL 2021 points table since the start. These two teams grabbed the top two spots after the first leg. In the ongoing 2nd leg, too, CSK and DC have managed to reserve the top two places for themselves. In this article, we take a look at the playoff qualification scenario for each team in IPL 2021.

Chennai Super Kings are at the peak spot in IPL 2021 points table with 16 points. Out of 10 games, CSK have won 8 and lost only 2. CSK are highly assured of qualifying for the playoffs. They have 96.7% chance of finishing in the top two slots. Since CSK have 4 games left in the tournament, the maximum points that they can achieve is 24. (if they manage to win all the rest 4 games).

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals hold the 2nd spot in the points table currently. The Rishabh Pant-led side have 16 points in their kitty, equal to that of CSK. Out of 10 games, DC have also won 8 games and lost 2. DC have a 95% chance of finishing in the top two slots in the end. With 4 more matches to go, the maximum number of points that they can earn is 24.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore currently hold the 3rd spot in IPL 2021 with 12 points. Out of 10 games, the team have won 6 and lost 4. RCB are highly expected to finish in the top four spots singly or jointly. They also have a 26% chance of finishing in the top two positions. With 4 more games left for the Virat Kohli-led side, the maximum points they can earn is 20 points.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders currently take the 4th spot in the points table with 8 points. Out of 10 matches, they have won 4 and lost 6. Since three other teams too have equal points as that of KKR currently, the chances of KKR finishing in the top four is highly competitive. KKR have a 36% chance of making it to the playoffs single or jointly. The maximum points that KKR can earn in IPL 2021 is 16.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings are placed at the 6th spot in IPL 2021 points table, currently with 8 points. They have won 4 games and lost 6 out of 10. Like KKR, PBKS also have a 36% chance of making it to the playoffs.

They are in close competition with KKR and the other 2 teams, who also have equal 8 points in their kitty. PBKS can also earn a maximum of 16 points as they have 4 more games left in the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals take the 6th spot in IPL 2021 points table with 8 points. Like KKR and PBKS, RR have also won 4 games and lost 6 out of 10. The Sanju Samson-led team also has a 36% chance of making it to the playoffs. With 4 games left, they can earn maximum 16 points, provided they win all of their rest games.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians take the 7th spot in IPL 2021 points table with 8 points. The team have won 4 games and lost 6 out of 10 so far. MI heled the 4th spot after the end of the first leg. However, with 3 back-to-back defeats in the opening games of the UAE leg, the defending champions fell to the second-last spot in the points table.

Like KKR, PBKS, and RR, MI have a 36 percent chance of making it to the playoffs. MI can maximum reach 16 points since they have 4 more games to play in the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad take the last spot in IPL 2021 points table with 4 points. Out of 10 games, the team have won just 2 and lost 8. Almost since the start of the tournament, SRH have remained at the bottommost spot in the points table.

The team has very little chance of finishing in the top 4 slots. Moreover, SRH’s selection to playoffs also depends a lot on the results of other teams. The maximum points that SRH can reach is 12 points.
