Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman Shimron Hetmyer has spilled the beans behind the number 189 on his jersey. The left-handed West Indian stated that he wears the jersey with 189 on the back because it is his highest score, which he scored not in international cricket, but in a lower-level game.

Shimron Hetmyer talked about it to Shreyas Iyer in a fun chat after Delhi’s win over the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

In a video posted on IPLT20.COM, Shimron Hetmyer said, “Well, that’s actually my highest score. It wasn’t in Tests. If it was in Tests, I would probably be crying now (jokingly). It was my highest score in cricket back home. I can’t remember what game it was to be honest. I guess that was just one of those days. I just went out, swiped and I got to 189 and then I got out.”

The southpaw also opened about his love for his hair, which he colours in different shades often.

“I love bling, that’s one. And, I love looking after my hair as well. It is something that I really like doing and I put some chemicals in it to keep it nice and soft.”

I paced my innings really well: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was Man of the Match for his 32-ball 43, where he and Rishabh Pant had to take over from the score of 21/2. Shimron Hetmyer then smacked 28 runs off 16 balls with the help of five fours to take DC over 150. Eventually, their total of 154 would prove 33 runs more than what the Royals could manage.

Iyer remained happy with his knock which came on a difficult batting surface.

“I would say that I paced my innings really well. I know that once my eyes get set, I try to read the bowler and I know what they are going to do, their next move basically. Yeah, I wouldn’t say this was one of my best knocks. But I am really glad that we took our team to this position of 155 because, for a majority of the batsmen, it was difficult to bat on. It is always fun to bat on a wicket which is difficult for others,” Iyer said.

Delhi move to the top of the table once again and now with 16 points have all but sealed a playoff berth. They will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday in Sharjah.
