Delhi Capitals batsman Shreyas Iyer revealed the chat between him and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin during the team’s batting against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
Delhi Capitals defeated Rohit Sharma and his men in a low-scoring chase at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium but not before going through some final over tensions as the five-time IPL champions threatened to come back in the game.
Shreyas Iyer-Ravichandran Ashwin takes Delhi Capitals to finish line
Capitals were reeling at 93/6 at the start of the 14th over as Ashwin joined Shreyas at the crease and the team was still 37 runs far from chasing the target and had to ensure that no more wickets tumble from here on.

Using his wide range of experience, Ashwin played the second fiddle role to the former Capitals skipper and slog-swept Krunal Pandya for a six over deep mid-wicket to finish the game for his team.
Ashwin’s intent was to take singles as much as possible and rotate the strike: Shreyas Iyer
Delhi Capitals won by four wickets as Shreyas and Ashwin remained unbeaten on scores of 33 and 20 respectively. Shreyas said that Ashwin had told him that he himself would take on the Mumbai Indians bowlers.
“I felt really amazing to bat through and take my team till the end. It was a low scoring game so I decided to stay till the end even though I was shifted lower down the order. I backed myself and backed my instincts.
“Whatever situation I’ll be in, I knew I would win the game. When you think positive, everything turns out to be your way. He (Ashwin) came in and he was really positive,” Iyer said after the match to the official broadcasters.

“His intent was to take singles as much as possible and rotate the strike and that went till the last two overs. After that, he started seeing the ball really well and decided that he’ll take on the bowlers.
“Both of us wanted to bat till the last ball, so he was like ‘I’ll take down, you just try to stay till the end and make sure you win the match for the team’. The transition has happened in the last two years and we have created that environment from 2019,” he added.
Delhi Capitals will face Chennai Super Kings in the top of the table clash on October 4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
