The Delhi Capitals registered a hard-fought 4-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in Sharjah on Saturday
Chasing 130, Delhi lost both the openers inside three overs – Shikhar Dhawan run-out by a brilliant throw from Kieron Pollard, and Prithvi Shaw trapped lbw by Krunal Pandya. Rishabh Pant, though, didn’t stifle his attacking instincts as he smoked Krunal for a maximum on his second ball.
He whacked a couple of fours off Jasprit Bumrah to cap off the powerplay for DC at 46/3. The left-hander’s funky stay was ended by Jayant Yadav, as Pant holed down to long-on for 26 off 22 balls.
Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the ship with a run-a-ball 20-run stand before the left-hander was dismissed by Trent Boult. Shimron Hetmyer started off in a brisk fashion with a couple of fours off Jayant before being accounted for by Bumrah.

Iyer and R Ashwin rotated the strike well and hit an occasional boundary to keep the required run rate near to 6 runs per over. With 4 needed off 6 balls, Ashwin finished it with a maximum. Iyer remained unbeaten on 33 off 33 and Ashwin 20 off 21.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first by Pant, MI skipper Rohit Sharma started his innings with a four on the first ball off Anrich Nortje, but got out to Avesh Khan in the second over.
Suryakumar Yadav, who has been out of form in the UAE leg, swept R Ashwin for a maximum to announce his arrival. Quinton de Kock ramped compatriot Kagiso Rabada for a six over short fine leg.
However, runs dried up for MI as they finished the powerplay at 35/1. Soon after, de Kock was dismissed by Axar Patel for 19 runs off 18 balls. Suryakumar played his shots against Ashwin and Rabada before falling to Patel, who would also dismiss Saurabh Tiwary to cap off his spell with figures of 3/21.

Wickets continue to fall as Kieron Pollard edged Nortje onto his stumps. With the ball holding in the pitch, Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal, struggled to even rotate the strike, dragging MI to 100 in the 17th over.
Hardik broke his shackles with a couple of boundaries off Nortje in the 18th, before getting yorked by Avesh Khan in the 19th. Nathan Coulter-Nile was also bowled by Khan, who ended up with figures of 3/15. A six each from Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya in the last over of the innings, bowled by Ashwin, helped MI to a respectable total of 129.
Netizens were buzzing on Twitter with this win of the Capitals as MI’s hopes of qualifying in the playoffs diminished.

That last over finish gave MI a bit of hope – Akin to finding an oasis in desert.
However, they were about 15 short. 145ish was a competitive total in these conditions.

Please don't take the example of Iyer's inns today to justify KL's yesterday.
Iyer's innings was far superior given the pitch and the bowling attack. Iyer nailed his innings today. Got the boundaries when needed and didn't dot up.

Sensible, clever, excellent partnership between Iyer and Ashwin takes #<!---->D<!---->C home in a tense match.
